Be a good role model
Plan for 30 minutes of moderate activity every day.

Make fitness a part of everyday life
Walk to get milk, take the stairs, walk the dog, mow the grass.

Plan family fitness outings
Once a week do a fun fitness activity, participate in a fund-raising activity as a family, plan physical activities for your vacation ( hiking biking swimming).

Make exercise a social event
Have a skating B-day party, a canoeing-rowing family reunion.

Limit TV and video and computer games

Give gifts that encourage physical activity
Bike, sporting equipment, lessons, hula hoop, line-dance video.

Match your child to an appropriate sport
Not every child wants to do team sports. They may enjoy dance, horseback riding, tennis, golf.

Support your child's interest
Find classes you can afford. Attend performances and games.

Get involved
Volunteer for after-school programs.

Be Positive
Discuss what you do, not what you haven't.

Encourage participation not performance
